Lewis Invests in Historic Waterfront Building for its New Headquarters
Seattle – Lease Crutcher Lewis has purchased a 50 percent interest in the 2200 Western Avenue building owned by the Moscatel family’s Allegra Properties and together they will co-develop the property.
“We made this investment both for the future of the company and as an investment in Seattle,” said Bill Lewis, chairman. ”The timing for this investment came at exactly the right time and will allow us to move into new headquarters where we will be poised for the company’s growth in years to come. It keeps our headquarters in downtown Seattle near our clients, with great access to public transportation and gives us a chance to be connected to the waterfront redevelopment.”
Lewis will be the primary tenant in the building that formerly housed Continental Furniture. They will occupy floors four and a newly constructed penthouse on the fifth floor. Major elements of work that are part of repositioning the building include seismic upgrades, masonry restoration and new mechanical/electrical systems. The office construction is slated to begin in December with move in during the summer of 2014.
The offices will be designed to allow for more contiguous and open space to support Lewis’ collaborative work style. The space will also reflect the company’s commitment to sustainability with a target of LEED Gold for the building.
The 2200 Western Building was originally built as Union Stables, 1909-10. At one time it housed some 300 horses that were used to draw early street cars and fire engines in Seattle. Then in 1942 the building was remodeled for Graham Furniture Company and in 1974 the Moscatel family purchased the property for use as retail and warehouse for the Continental Furniture company.
