Lewis completed this $90M addition and renovation to the Erb Memorial Union (EMU) at the University of Oregon. The project features a new kitchen, dining facilities, student lounge, study areas, offices, meeting/conference rooms, ballroom spaces, public circulation areas, and a musical concert hall. As part of our initiative to promote equity in contracting and provide opportunities for smaller firms in the construction industry, Lewis teamed with Colas Construction in the delivery of the Project. One of the few African-American-owned commercial general contractors in Oregon, Colas worked with Lewis as an integrated member of our team, providing constructability review and budget options analysis in preconstruction, and a dedicated project engineer in construction, focused on the interior demolition and reconstruction work. Our intent was to provide an emerging firm with the opportunity to gain the experience of a large, public project—and thus equip them with enhanced capabilities to perform similar projects in the future.
