University of Washington Health Sciences Education Building

The Project
This highly-sustainable 100,000-square-foot projects includes anatomy and skills labs, classrooms, offices, and collaboration spaces, fostering creativity and connection across clinical, research, and academic programs. The project was delivered through an integrated design-build model (a form of progressive design-build) with The Miller Hull Partnership as an addition to the existing Health Sciences campus.

About
We partnered with KPFF and UW students and staff to design and test a structural decking system that integrates steel, concrete, and cross-laminated timber (CLT). The system incorporates 209 CLT panels as the primary structural element, topped with three inches of concrete and supported by a steel frame. The system reduced the embodied carbon impact of the structural decking system by 50%.
