With a 131-year history of giving back to the communities we help build, we are committed to making a positive impact, EVERY DAY. Corporate social responsibility requires a concerted effort, targeting critical needs within our communities. Our stewardship focuses on three key platforms: supporting impactful non-profit organizations, advancing sustainability and promoting diversity within our industry.
Community involvement is a big focus at Lewis, and we’re proud of our tradition of giving back to the communities we help build. Lewis employees raise funds for cancer research, repair homes for elderly people, and collect food for hungry families—to name a few causes. Our corporate giving and employee charitable contributions matching programs encourage personal engagement, and many of our employees provide volunteer leadership for local non-profit organizations.
Lewis is a founding sponsor of Obliteride, Fred Hutchinson’s fundraising ride benefiting for Cancer Research. Since the event’s inception in 2013, we have engaged hundreds of riders and volunteers and raised nearly $1.5 million.
Over the last decade, Lewis has participated in several workdays, painting homes, clearing debris and performing repairs for elderly, disabled and low income Portlanders in partnership with REACH’s Community Builders Program.
There are countless other organizations we support, including Northwest Medical Teams, the Oregon Food Bank, YMCA, ACE Mentor Program, Meals on Wheels and Playworks.
Lewis’ business practices and corporate philosophy aim to promote health and environmental sustainability and limit the adverse impacts of construction on the environment. Operational tactics include reducing vehicle emissions with employee transit subsidies and no-idling policies for jobsite delivery trucks, decreasing paper consumption with our “paperless project” initiative and reducing demand for toxic chemicals with green housekeeping practices and use of low-VOC materials during construction.
Our offices were built to limit energy consumption and water use, maximize the use of natural light and minimize the consumption of construction materials.
Equity in Contracting
At Lewis Respect is a core value. We are committed to promoting equity in contracting and creating a resilient, sustainable local economy. Lewis Equity aims to create and sustain a business team and partnerships that value and reflect the broad diversity and strengths of our community, by means of:
- Increasing diversity among our workforce and within the industry at large, thereby fostering equity and innovation and broadening the field of skilled craftspeople and construction professionals.
- Developing relationships with minority and women owned businesses, veteran and service-disabled firms and small businesses to enhance skill and knowledge base, promoting competition and continual improvement in the industry.
- Supporting the efforts of our clients and the community to invest in and sustain diverse and emerging businesses by engaging them in our projects.
