Eco-Friendly Apartment Complex

EUGENE, Ore. – Developers of the new Courtside Apartments near Matthew Knight Arena say their complex for students will be the first LEED Gold Certified in Eugene. To achieve the eco-friendly status, developers will add a number of "green" features to the building, including an eco-roof, which retains and cleans storm water. There are also energy-efficient windows and appliances. Developers hope the green features are a selling point for students. "With students particularly, they're concerned about the environment and certainly here at UO it's front and center in all of our minds. We think it will help us lease out the project as well as simply doing the right thing," said Courtside Developer Thomas Cody. The five-story, 47-unit complex will house up to 172 students this fall with retail space on the ground floor.
